Why Accreditation

The Higher Learning Commission (HLC) is an independent corporation that was founded in 1895 as one of six regional institutional accreditors in the United States. HLC accredits degree-granting post-secondary educational institutions in the North Central region.  The process of accreditation occurs every 10 years and it reviews various standards of quality by which the commission will determine if UNI meets the required criteria for reaffirmation.  Maintaining accreditation ensures that UNI will continue to offer exceptional degree programs as well as offer grants and financial aid for our students.  Attending an accredited institution is of critical importance for a student to transfer credits and pursue admission in graduate programs.
